BECOMING A CATHOLIC

Are you thinking about becoming Catholic?  Do you know someone else who is?  Are you already Catholic, but want to better understand your Catholic Christian faith?  Do you want a stronger relationship with Jesus?  Do you have a desire for greater meaning and purpose in your life?  If so, the Church of the Good Shepherd welcomes you to continue your faith journey and discover the depth and beauty of the Catholic Christian faith.

As a first step, we suggest that you simply talk with someone.  At Good Shepherd, you might wish to speak to our pastor, Father Jozef Kovacik, or to Deacon Jack Orlandi, or to Amy Steele Timan, our Director of Faith Formation.  As a second step, we suggest that you inquire about the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, or RCIA.  RCIA is a gradual process of faith formation and conversion—a process used throughout the world for people who want to become Catholic.

The gradual process of RCIA takes place in stages.  These stages include learning about various aspects of the Catholic Christian faith, experiencing the faith within a small group and within the parish, and being a part of liturgical celebrations within the parish and the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown.  Since the background, experiences, and needs of each individual differs, the length of time can vary for each person.

If you want to learn more about the RCIA program, please contact the RCIA director at Good Shepherd, Bill Zierke, at 814-933-9870 or billzierke@comcast.net.
