Youth Ministry

Good Shepherd has two youth ministry programs to help meet the diverse needs of youth in middle and high school and to allow them to explore their faith through service, creative programming, and faith-infused, fun activities.  Our youth ministry complements our Faith Formation (TYM) program.

Youth Ministry programs are open to any youth who wishes to have fun and share their faith.  Youth do not need to be enrolled in Faith Formation at Good Shepherd to participate, nor do they need to be Catholic.  We welcome youth and their friends from any and all denominations.

  • WORD - Our High School Youth Ministry group is open to youth in 9th-12th grades.  We encourage participation and leadership by inviting youth to engage in the planning of events and activities.  WORD meets several times each month, balancing service, fun and faith.  Our larger WORD group nights (games, movies, dinners, etc.) meet from 7:00-9:00 p.m. (unless otherwise stated). WORD's additional small group book study, L.O.F.T. (Living Out Faith Together), meets from 7:00-8:30 p.m. the first and third Wednesday of each month, also in the Warehouse.  Please join in at any time.
  • SHOUT - Our Middle School Youth Ministry is open to youth in 7th-8th grades.  We focus on both social and service activities to allow this age group to become comfortable and welcome in their faith community.  SHOUT typically offers one event each month and often gathers with our WORD group for events.  Dates and times may change each month, depending upon the activity.  Events are always posted in the bulletin and on social media.
  • SHOUT~PT (Parent & Teen) is a new program offered this Fall to our Middle School youth (Grades 6-8) and their parents.  We will tackle topics and issues that are relevant to our teens today.  Much like a bit of "Physical Therapy" for the soul, we will present a monthly topic, small group (parents and teens will separate), large group discussion, and time for fellowship and snack. SHOUT~PT will meet monthly in the Warehouse from 7:00-8:30.

In addition to our regular meetings, we offer several additional events throughout the year including:  Sleep Out Saturday (homelessness awareness), Gingerbread Creations, Lock-Ins, Senior-to-Senior Program, JHYD (Jr. High Youth Day) and SHYCON (Senior High Youth Conference.)  We invite youth to gain community service hours by volunteering for many of our outreach opportunities (Birthday Blessings Cake delivered monthly to Centre House, Bell Ringing during Advent, Lenten Dinner Dessert Team, and Seder Meal servers, to name a few).  We also attend the National Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC) held every two years (open to 10th-12th grades) and continue to encourage each teen to TJWY (take Jesus with you) as they grow on this journey of faith.

L.O.F.T. introduces "Echo the Story", a 12-week Bible overview for youth using storytelling, creative reflection, and dialogue. Through this story-based approach, students find meaning and identity in the biblical narrative. From creation to the formation of the church, teens enter imaginatively into each story by observing, drawing, writing, and participating in group dialogue. Program components include DVDs and each participant will be given a Sketch Journal (Youth Ministry will absorb the $11.00 cost per journal if teens commit!). Echo the Story embraces different learning styles. Each session follows a six-part sequence: Rewind, Prepare, Imagine, Capture, Remix, and Connect.

LOFT Sessions are as follows and meet in the Warehouse from 7:30-9:00 on Wed. evenings(*except where time change is noted)

Feb.  1st & 15th     March 1st* (8:00-9:00) & 22nd       April 5th & 19th       May 3rd & 17th

WORD Dessert Team and generous donors: Thank you so much for your generosity!  we had an amazing turn out each week, logged in over 120 community service hours with our teens, and wonderful time in community with our good shepherd family and friends.  Once again, we will use the funds to help defray the cost of NCYC this fall, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts!  <><

"Senior to Senior" Class of 2017    A big thank you to the many adults who are lifting our Senior class in daily prayer. God Bless You for stepping up to lift another in prayer~ especially during this year of discernment for our seniors. We will celebrate on May 20th, 2017, after the 5:30 Mass with a Meet and Greet. So...sign up, mark your calendar... then, get praying!  <><

BIRTHDAY BLESSINGS MINISTRY: Please consider blessing another with the gift of a birthday cake! Through Sleep Out Saturday, we met a woman who shared her story of how birthdays just come and go, unnoticed sometimes, when you find yourself homeless. From her testimony, we began this ministry two years ago and deliver a birthday cake (home made or store bought) with "Birthday Blessings" written on it to Centre House, our local homeless shelter, on the 15th of each month.  We have volunteers signed up for the next few months, but consider adding your name and I will call you when the time comes to bake! Thank you so very much, this ministry reaches all ages... and can be a wonderful family gift to others! Sign up today!!!

Both groups are always in need of wonderful volunteers to help facilitate and chaperone events either on a one-time basis or throughout the program.  Please pray about spending time sharing your faith and have some fun with a great group of teens.  Since the expansion, our teens have taken great pride in making the Warehouse "shine" with color for Jesus.  Come and spend some time with us!

More detailed information for each event can be found on the Youth Ministry bulletin boards in the gathering space, on our Facebook page under WORD and SHOUT Youth Ministry Good Shepherd, or on Twitter @WORDyouthgroup.  If you have any questions about youth ministry or would like to volunteer for any of our events, please contact Elaine Scutti at
