Rev. Charles M. Amershek, Jr.; Pastor

Father Charlie Amershek was born in Johnstown, PA. to Charlie Sr. and Anne (Tomak) Amershek. He has two sisters, Carol Fagan (deceased) and Janet Kazanecki, who resides in Johnstown. Father Charlie graduated from St. Rochus Catholic School and then from Bishop McCort High School. In 1971, he earned a BA in Philosophy from St. Francis College, and in 1975, a Masters of Divinity in Sacred Theology from St. Francis Seminary, which is now the Federal Correction Institute of Loretto, PA.

He was ordained to priestly service for the Church of Altoona-Johnsown in May of 1975. Father Charlie has served as Chaplain and Theology Instructor at Bishop Carroll High School; priest in residence at St. Charles Chruch in Twin Rocks; parochial vicar at Our Mother of Sorrows Parish in Johnstown (there is no truth to the rumor that this Parish was known as "Our Lady of Joy" until he was assigned there!); and from 1982 until the Parish was suppressed in 2009, pastor at his home parish, St. Rochus. After St. Rochus parish was closed, Father Charlie was granted a Sabbatical year, highlighted by his participation in the Ministry to Ministers Sabbatical Program at the Oblate School of Theology in San Antonio, Texas.

Deacon Michael A. Ondik

Deacon Mike Ondik was ordained a deacon in 2000. Deacon Mike spent 30 years in the public arena of natural resource conservation. His interest in wildlife and the outdoors in general will always be there, but the little bit of help he can be to the people who need help is important in a different way. Mike, his wife Nancy, and their family live here in Happy Valley. His son Mike is a Land Management Group Supervisor with the Pennsylvania Game Commission, his daughter Dolores is involved with Rittenhouse Management Corporation in Shingletown, and his son Patrick is a heating/air conditioning technician and lives in State College. He has six grandchildren and they are lots of fun. He lives on a small farm near Fillmore, PA. The pleasure of serving Good Shepherd parish has been all his! He is looking forward to many more years!

Deacon Jack Orlandi

Deacon Jack Orlandi was ordained a deacon in 2009. He is a native of Jerome, PA in Somerset County. He graduated from St Francis High School in Athol Springs NY. He entered the Air Force in 1966 where he spent 20 years until his retirement in 1986. He joined the Penn State Community in 1986 as a computer analyst/programmer supporting the University Libraries computer systems. His daughter Renee lives in State College and his son Christopher and his wife Jennifer live in Knoxville, TN. Deacon Jack is married to Colette a native of San Antonio. Deacon Jack and Colette, along with some friends, formed a prayer group which led to his calling to the diaconate. They both have been involved with Prison Ministry at the nearby Rockview State Corrections Institution. Deacon Jack actively serves the people of our parish as well as those in our surrounding area.

Dee has been employed by the parish since 1991 after spending several years in the Human Resources department at Penn State's Applied Research Laboratory and in the Training and Development department at HRB-Singer (now Raytheon). She currently serves as our Parish Manager, and is responsible for the various aspects of the parish that comprise the business, facility and human resource operations. Dee also serves in a liaison capacity to a number of the parish's committees, and is currently overseeing the expansion of our current facility to include the Father Bender Community Center.

Margie comes to the parish from Western Maryland. She began her professional career in Catechetical Ministry as Director of Religious Education at St. Peter's Church in Westernport, MD. In 1989, she was hired as a Coordinator at Catholic Education Ministries of Western Maryland which was a regional center of catechetical and ministry formation and planning for the Archdiocese of Baltimore. She was appointed Director of that Center in 1991 and served there until the Center was closed on June 30, 2010. She moved to the State College area to begin as Director of Faith Formation on September 9, 2010, with her dog, Bailey. She currently lives in Lemont. Her sister and brother-in-law, Kay and Harry Duckworth, have been members of Good Shepherd since its founding. Margie is a graduate of LaSalle University in Philadelphia. Margie hopes to continue to build on the strong foundation of Faith Formation that she has already found evident at Good Shepherd.

Elaine M. Scutti Coordinator of Youth Ministry

Elaine, a native of Pittsburgh, graduated from Penn State with a B.S. in Marketing. She worked for both Kraft and American Home Foods before "retiring" to raise her three children in Naperville, Illinois. Over the past 20 years, she has been a 3rd grade Catechist and VBS leader. After completing a 3 year Lay Formation for Ministry Program through the Joliet Diocese, Elaine and her family decided to relocate back to where it all began. God's hand was in every detail as the family joined Good Shepherd in the Fall of 2009 and the parish found itself in need of a Youth Minister. Elaine joined the staff in March of 2010, and has loved getting to know each of the families while building up the youth groups, WORD and SHOUT.

Dee's husband Al is retired form the Applied Research Laboratory where he was employed as a Fluid Mechanics Engineer for over 33 years. He still serves there on a consulting basis. They have one son, Scott, who is employed as a GIS Specialist with Michael Baker Corporation in Beaver, PA. Margaret M. Meyers, Director, Faith Formation Margie comes to the parish from Western Maryland. Tommy is a junior studying Biology at Penn State, Taylor, a freshman Engineering student at Penn State, and Victoria is a sophomore at State High. After early retirement, Carmine has joined his Mom as a Financial Advisor with Janney Montgomery Scott. Every day, Elaine and Carmine wake up and thank God for the blessing of living in the beauty of central Pennsylvania!
